London’s newest world-class hotel, The Cumberland, is providing the perfect showcase for conference and presentation technology from Crestron – the world-leading manufacturer of control and automation solutions.

The Cumberland has been designed to be a place where ‘breathtaking style and design, exceptional comfort’ have been combined to form a ‘truly unique and intimate experience’. Situated at the top of Park Lane, the hotel has over 900 contemporary designer bedrooms - as well as all the comforts you would expect from a world-class hotel. With a main conference auditorium, as well as twenty six smaller meeting rooms that make up a self-contained complex, the hotel is aiming to become one of the capital’s prime destinations for corporate events.
London-based Corporate AV, specialist in audio visual solutions for business, has fully equipped the conference facilities to ensure that they meet the demands of today's business user. As Bill Simpkins, Technical Manager at Corporate AV says, Crestron’s range of products for the commercial market are ideal for satisfying this type of requirement: “We needed a manufacturer that could deliver stylish, modern presentation and conference technology that could meet the demands of the 21st Century business user. Crestron fitted the bill perfectly.”
Corporate AV has installed Crestron’s cost-effective MP2E integrated AV control system combined with an ST1700 TouchPanel into twelve of the conference rooms. The MP2E combines an ethernet control system and audio/video switcher in a single box to provide a total room control solution. Easily configured with Crestron SystemBuilder™ software, the MP2E is all that is needed to select and control all of the room's AV and evironmental resources, including VCRs, DVD/CD players, projectors, screens, lighting and more. A unique combination of high-performance features and performance at an affordable price, ensures that the MP2E is the ideal AV control solution for hotels, universities and colleges, as well as corporate facilities, and other business users.
In the main ‘Ocean Room’ auditorium, Corporate AV has specified two wall-mounted CT-1000 touchpanels combined with the PRO2 control system - Crestron’s flagship solution for demanding medium to large-scale commercial applications. The CT-1000 has a 3.8" passive matrix colour touchscreen, flanked by 10 engravable pushbuttons, within a compact design that delivers a world of control capability.
The PRO2 has six built-in COM ports, eight IR/Serial ports, eight I/O Versiports, and eight isolated relays to provide the essential interface for control of numerous devices including: video projectors, plasma displays, switchers, VCRs, DVD players, screens, lifts, and much more. Additional control ports and other interfaces like MIDI, DTMF and digital audio processing may be added by installing up to three Y-Bus control cards in the PRO2's built-in Y-Bus expansion slots.
The PRO2 includes a programmable front panel with LCD display, four menu selection buttons, six user buttons, and port status LEDs. The front panel serves as a ready user interface for system configuration and diagnostics, and can also be custom programmed to enable menu-driven end-user control capability. The front panel may also be password-protected. Power is available through the PRO2's Cresnet port to support external Cresnet devices including touchpanels, keypads and expansion modules.
