When Dawsons AV Marine was asked by Sunseeker to help create the most technologically-advanced superyacht ever, they certainly rose to the challenge! As a result, the 37 Metre Tri-Deck must surely be one of the smartest boats afloat and, in order to ensure that its occupants aren’t all at sea with the wealth of technology in-situ, navigation of the technological variety has been provided by Crestron, which means that accessing the automation systems on board is nothing short of plain sailing!

In completing the project, Dawsons have delivered a yacht which boasts the very latest systems available in the AV industry, whilst maintaining the consistency of the look and feel of Sunseeker International vessels. Its impressive specification includes fully integrated multi-source, multi-cabin systems; Bang & Olufsen speakers, plasma and LCDs throughout; and the first ever marine installation of a B&O/Crestron AV interface. The project also won Dawsons recognition from trade association CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) when it won the Best Marine category at the 2008 CEDIA Awards.
In order to blend in with the look and feel of this beautiful Sunseeker vessel, Dawsons AV Marine installed the latest in touchpanel control technology from Crestron to enhance the occupants AV experience. No fewer than eight STX-1700CXP SmarTouch™ 2-Way Spread Spectrum wireless touchpanels deliver high-performance 2-way communication in a stylish and compact portable design, offering the ideal user-interface for controlling the vessel’s broad range of devices and sources, including its impressive entertainment system.

And, what an entertainment system it is! A centrally placed Kaleidescape server delivers a one-of-a-kind cinema experience to eight Kaleidescape players located throughout the yacht. The intuitive Kaleidescape System allows the yacht’s owner to collect, manage and enjoy his entire digital movie collection with breathtaking ease and speed for maximum viewing enjoyment. The Kaleidescape server stores the collection of DVDs and then provides multiple, simultaneous video playback throughout the yacht and it is all easily accessible and operational with one touch of the Crestron touchscreen. The yacht’s occupants can choose to watch different movies at the same time in different rooms, view the same film continuously on different screens as they move around the boat, or pause a movie in one of the luxury state rooms and finish watching it days later in the saloon on the B&O 50” plasma. Kaleidescape Music Players also provide easy access to the yacht owner’s collection of albums. Intuitive user interfaces make it easy to find and play music from the collection, delivering detailed descriptive information about the music library and enabling the user to mix and match music and arrange selections in any order, for a completely personalised listening experience.
No fewer than eight Crestron CEN-IDOCs on board provide an interface for the popular Apple iPod®, enabling full 2-way touchpanel control and navigation. Upon plugging the iPod into the docking station, the boat’s occupants can replicate the iPod experience on the wireless Crestron touchpanels, instantly sharing their entire personal music collection with speakers throughout the yacht. The yacht’s entertainment system is further enhanced with a “Party Mode” function which synchronises all loudspeakers, inside and out, allowing the Sunseeker to turn into a veritable nightclub at the touch of a button. An over-riding AV control switch enables the Captain to immediately stop all AV entertainment on-board should the need arise.

In the ensuite of the master state room, a TPS-2000L wall mount touchpanel, one of two on the yacht, puts a world of control capability in the space of a common light switch, offering fingertip control of the 17” Aquavision LCD and Speakercraft ceiling speakers. The vessel also boasts an exterior waterproof LCD and an unrivalled standard of exterior sound quality has been achieved with the installation of 16 SpeakerCraft AIM8 Fives.
Two Middle Atlantic racks house the brains behind the boat’s system, including the Crestron AV2 Processor which enables every audio, video, and environmental element of the vessel to be integrated and accessible. A CNX-BIPAD8 high performance stereo audio switcher and preamplifier provides maximum flexibility for audio distribution throughout the yacht. Four C2N-TFM professional FM radio tuners have been used in conjunction with the 2-series control system, delivering occupants with stereophile performance and an array of ways to locate and select their favourite station or program.
Yes, with its enviable and now award-winning technical specification, this is certainly one vessel that puts the super in the superyacht!
